The marriage license of Joe Knudson and Carrie Johnson, which Charles F Dirst has a copy of, says Carrie was born in Pontiac, IL. However, James Schlosser has been unable to confirm her birth in Pontiac, or in Livingston County. The marriage license also says she will be 21 on her next birthday. Since she was married on Sep 26, 1895, and her birthday was Nov 10, she would have been born in 1874. However, the death certificate, which Charles F Dirst has a copy of, says she was born on Nov 10, 1876 and died on Jun 13, 1920. It also says she was 44 years, 7 months, and 3 days old when she died. If this age is correct, she would have been born in 1875. Carrie died at the Elgin State Hospital and the death certificate says she died of "Abcess of the Brain", after being treated at Elgin for 20 days.
The cemetery stone at Plattville Lutheran Church says she was born in 1875.
Per James E Schlosser genealogy files, Carrie fell at services for her mother and died shortly thereafter. This fall may have been at the funeral of her stepmother, Serina, who she probable only knew as her mother, Charles F Dirst believes her real mother, Marthat Hill, died when Carrie was very young. James Schlosser's records also say that Carrie was born November 10, 1874 in LaSalle County.
The Insane Commission reports that Carol and Charles Dirst received at the Kendall County courthouse show the following: Carrie Knudson, age 45, is insane (dated April 10, 1920). Committed to Elgin State Hospital. Previous attack on July 1, 1919 and treated at Kenilworth and Elgin State Hospital. Father age 76. Mother died at age 25 of childbirth.
Per article about Carrie wedding to Joseph Knudson, she has resided here for 10 years. So Carrie and her parents must have been in Sandwich about 1885.
